Lisa Steuerwald
What do you do?
I perform as a stilt walker, mime artist, impersonator, character actor, and aerialist. I am also a body painter and special FX make-up artist. My background is as a dancer, gymnast and model. My career has taken me around the world to London, Tokyo, Singapore, New Zealand and all around Australia including the Whitsundays.
Which is the best gig you have performed at?
Oh my, there are so many, but the most memorable experience was a 6 month stint at World Expo, Australia's bicentennial celebration in Brisbane, performing with international performers in a non-stop party atmosphere.
What is the weirdest thing that has happened to you while performing?
1. I was working with a snake dancer for a particular gig and her snake decided it was the right time to open its bowels.....what a showstopper!
2. I was booked as a Liza Minelli impersonator at a celebrity themed function and won the best dressed prize!
3. As a living statue I was being admired as such a beautiful sculpture when someone thought it would be a good idea to poke me with a toothpick to test what material I was made of....they soon discovered it was 'flesh'.
4. I was a stilt walker at a very crowded venue when someone handed me their baby to hold up into the air for a photo.
What type of body painting do you do?
Together with my partner we have created many creatures with body paint for the corporate industry worldwide. Jungle animals are very popular...tigers, zebras, leopards, as well as, parrots, reptiles, peacocks etc. Fantasy creatures like mermaids, demons, gargoyles are also popular. We paint athletes in football jerseys, swimwear, and other clothing. We also paint company logos onto bodies for effective corporate advertising.
Why do you like to perform and why?
Performing gives me the freedom to express a part of myself that needs to be shelved in normal life....I can get away with murder when I'm in character....and I love it!
Who would you like to perform with and why?
That's a hard one, probably Bette Midler she is so versatile and has incredible vibrance.
What is your most memorable moment?
There are many,
1. Jumping out of a huge cake at a prestigious gala event as Marilyn Monroe and singing 'Happy Birthday' to a very important person!
2. Playing a dead body on a slab as a featured centre piece for the premiere launch party of Nine Network's 'Murder Call'. During the press photos with the cast all around me I suddenly sat up and came to life, there were shrieks and screams of surprise as cast and executive guests realized I was actually a real person that whole time.
3. Stiltwalking whilst 6 months pregnant with my first baby, my husband following me around worried sick. I felt fine but I had to promise him I wouldn't do another stilt job until after our baby was born.
What makes you laugh?
My Dad makes me laugh, he always has and still does. Physical comedy makes me laugh, off the cuff comments, outrageous behavior.....I like Carl Barron and Seinfeld. Don't try and tell me a joke though because I won't laugh.
What is your favourite film?
It has to be Bram Stokers Dracula...brilliant.
What is your favourite thing to do when you're not working?
Spending time with my family, I have 2 beautiful young daughters. I enjoy relaxing with friends, entertaining, going on weekends away....and sleeping's not bad either!
How long have you been performing for?
About 20 years now.
What are passionate about?
Exotic destinations, fine food and wine, music, creative couture, flamboyance and eccentricity...
